LT 703 Photoacoustic Spectroscopy SF6 Decomposition Sensor

Overview

SF6 gas-insulated switchgear (GIS) offers excellent insulation performance, yet insulation faults can still occur during operation. Partial discharges such as corona, sparks, and arcs cause SF6 to decompose and react with moisture and insulating materials, generating characteristic by-products. Analysis of these decomposition gases enables fault diagnosis and early detection of insulation defects.

Principle

The LT 703 Series uses infrared photoacoustic spectroscopy to analyze SF6 decomposition gases in oil. A pulsed infrared light source and 9 narrowband mid-infrared channels enable simultaneous multi-gas detection. Ultra-high sensitivity is achieved with a patented cantilever optical microphone and ultra-narrow optical filtering, minimizing cross-interference and ensuring accurate measurements.
